I tend to engage. Even with the inane. Which is stupid since even I only have so many hours in the day. Most of which would be spent better than I do.

I am currently battling with myself whether to put forward a well reasoned view, knowing full well  it will make fuck all difference to the recipient.

  1. Discretion being the better part…..don’t bother.
I remember once suggesting to a class that they all bring a couple of bricks to school the next day so that could build a real brick wall to bang my head against. Bless them they all laughed having been told too often that teaching them was like banging one’s head against a brick wall. I did get one brick out of the exercise.

    • But I do bother, David. That’s where all my troubles (and delights) stem from: Bother.

I can tell you listened to Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”. And yes, I saw the musical, one of my first outings in London after having been shipped to these shores.

I hope the one kid who brought you a brick got full marks. I also hope that all the others, those who didn’t “bother’, all became brick layers. Hard labour minus Siberia.

  2. Here’s a lesson I learned from some Buddhist whose name is missing a few vowels or consonants or just maybe too long to pronounce without slurring. “If it doesn’t add to the silence, don’t say it.” I don’t think this is going to help you much if you’re really cranked up, but it might be worth remembering in lesser vexing situations. :|

    • Me “cranked up”, Lorna? I am positively vertiginous – by default. Where there is mud it shall fly. If I get dirty in the process at least I’ll have an excuse to have the second shower of the day.

  3. I supose it depends to a degree on your relationship with the intended recipint. I’d be inclined to fire away if it is a friend and if not would say why bother. And, time spent and effort to make the well reasoned view was time well spent, if only for that exercise.
