With some of the consortium relentlessly banging on and on and on about their humoUr – driving me to despair – I owe a debt of gratitude to gentle Magpie11 who in his post ” Humor”  (3 Jan 10) explains the true meaning of humour: Not as the popular “ha ha ha isn’t life so funny” – but in its original variants.

Magpie, I would have loved to have done so myself – weeks ago, during which time I learnt that people’s misconceptions need to be ‘humoured’ at all times as not to make yourself loathed by the ill informed.

  1. I’m not a member of the consortium, but I hope I have enough power to help you on your way to despair. (I’m not mean, but at my age it’s nice to know I have an effect on anyone, positive or negative.) I put a couple of jokes on Ramana’s post about Faith today.

  2. bikehikebabe just left a cute story about her daughter’s rat on Grannymar’s site:

He came out of Lydia’s shirt & jumped on the shoulder of the girl next to Lydia, in a lecture auditorium in college. The girl screamed RAT! Mickey ran back into Lydia’s shirt & everyone thought the girl was crazy.

  3. Jean, there appears to be a misunderstanding in its making.

What I detest, and very much so, are people who keep saying “Me, me, me – look how funny (or whatever else) I am”. It’s like that stepmother in “Snow White” asking her mirror every morning: “Mirror, mirror on the wall: Who is the fairest of them all?” When the mirror, eventually, didn’t come up with the “right” answer all hell broke loose. Luckily, fairy tales being what they are, in “The End” she burnt in hell.

I can’t stand vanity. I can’t stand people drawing attention to their achievements, to character traits they perceive as desirable. Which is not, as I have said before, the same as showing a healthy respect for one’s self, confidence.
