Up or down?

Let me ask you a question. Answer it honestly rather than ingratiating yourself with me: Do you, man or woman, close the lid on the loo/toilet or not? After whatever you have done.

No Karma involved, no one is sitting in judgment, I’d just like to know.

I work in research; nay, I do research. An occupation entirely reliant on those researched to be honest. No wonder I am on the brink.

  1. I’m not touching the lid. Not a closer. Yikes.

    • You must be joking or maybe I’ve lost it.

I can always tell, when waking up at two or five in the morning whether the Angel has visitors. Male or female. All I need to do is visit the bathroom. When the lid is up I know someone is staying the night. And when the lid is down I know that only I and the Angel are occupying the premises. I don’t get it: There is a reason the lid is there to be folded down. If only to prevent your cat, even the one you don’t have, to drink from it. Cats and water do not mix. Nine lives or not.

I recently asked one of the Angel’s friends how many females there are in his parents’ household. Despite the fact that he has known me for years he didn’t get the sarcasm. However, what’s worse and I shall take this up with the Angel when he will come home later today, weary from a day of wage slavery and in no mood to discuss this with me, why his (female) “friend with benefits” acts like your average man. My comfort being found in that the Angel is NOT an average man even when he was still a boy, and though I never told him one way or an another, by osmosis, has picked up that what goes up must come down. Including the lid of a toilet.

  2. Lid down! Having lived with so many “bucket” lavatories in my childhood one gets into the habit:
There is also, in these days of water shortages, the water saving mantra to make it incumbent on one to close the lid: If it’s yellow it can mellow. If it’s brown flush it down.

  3. I used to always put the lid and seat down, but with the decline in the potty trained male population, I have been changing to putting them both up. Dr. U, please let us know when your research is published.

  4. There are no lids on Indian toilets! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squat_toilet

But alas, with my hips I am not allowed to squat and have been compelled to use a western style one. I am also blessed to live in a three bed room home with each bed room provided with attached toilets and so do not know about the other two bathrooms. In mine, what difference would it make to anybody whether I did or not?
