In command

Considering how easy my life is, it’s bloody complicated.

Have come to comforting conclusion that I’d make a fine General. By NOT invading Russia in winter (vital for survival) I’d win many a battle and probably be shot before given the chance to win the war.

  1. Hence that general is skillful in attack whose opponent does not know what to defend; and he is skillful in defense whose opponent does not know what to attack.

As always, a little bit confused but most certainly amused,

    • Confused, Phil? What I wrote is as clear as mud (to you and others), as clear to me as one of my expertly clarified consommes. Have come to conclusion that as long as we ourselves understand what we are are talking about everything will be fine. Just fine. Within limits.

  2. Sorry, Readers, abut (as Canadians – particularly in Toronto – will pronounce it) about several edits of my comment in response to Phil. Not only does Phil have a distracting effect on me (as yet of unknown origin) I am actually in the middle of making some stock. Yes, really. No bull. You can’t clarify two things at the time. That’s for sure. Forget multitasking. Either write an email, a response, whatever or look after your stock.

    Back to skimming.

    • Sure, blame it on the soup. It’s always the soup’s fault. Helpful hint: When you go into battle mode General U, make sure your stock is done and Phil isn’t sitting in your in box. 😉 Your troops will thank you because they will be alive to thank you.

      • I don’t blame the soup. I blame (our) Phil. My soups are faultless to a fault. Unless I forget about them and leave the stove. One of the reasons I try and avoid making Risotto. Risotto demands undivided attention. A bit like husbands. Which is why I like banging things into a Le Creuset in the oven and let the elements battle it out among themselves.

  3. Never do battle with soup. It will kick your butt every time. Make dip instead.

    • “Make a dip instead”? Well, Renee, you have shown your nation’s true colours. One could build a whole philosophy round your notion. You do know, don’t you, that there is a flaw in your Guacamole? Soup is a meal in a bowl. A dip requires sticks – or at least a Dorito. In absence of either you may use your little finger and lick it off there.

      Bon appetit,

  4. I got lost here somewhere between the Guacamole and the risotto and the husbands 🙂

    • Bella, I can tell soup is not your thing. Try and blend a husband in your average household appliance: It won’t happen. Unless you chop him up finely first. Which explains why I am not the marrying kind.

I will come back to Risotto. Risotto more a take on life than a meal on the plate.

      • Soup and husbands are not my thing, U. But I have the patience needed to make a good risotto, and hence, a good life, I think 🙂
