Bitch on the Blog

Sweethearts in varying degrees, some of you negligible, do you know the link between codeine and bananas? No, it’s not potassium.

A postcard will not suffice. Send me a long letter.

Hugs and kisses,

  1. Tylenol puts codeine with banana in their pill. It brings down fever & does whatever Tylenol is suppose to do. I don’t take the stuff. I’m trying to eat vegetables & stay away from drugs (& people with their germs).

  2. To add banana to codeine is adding irony to constipation.

Like you, Cynthia, I believe in the wholesome which is why I lie to my doctor. Not because I want to lie but because doctors are human too and need their belief in their pharmacological magic confirmed. Fact is that most ailments will go away on their own account. With two exceptions: Back pain and tooth ache. Bring on the Co-codamol. I don’t have a tooth ache so no commiseration needed. However, I did my back in nearly three weeks ago and for once my doctor did not have to wrestle me down to accept industrial strength, only available on prescription, codeine. Gratitude was mine. Not to mention it saves on toilet paper. Before you send condolences: Going by the last 48 hours or so I am restored to my former spine of steely self.

To dot the i and cross the t: When doctor prescribed that which has my liver doing overtime I said: You do know, of course, one of the side effects (see above) of codeine.” I admire doctors. Their patience. Particularly with a clever clogs patient like me. The considered answer (or rather question) was: “Would you like me to prescribe you something to counterattack the side effect?” No, I didn’t. Just stuck to my apples. Ever the optimist.

  3. And I thought it would be more mysterious than that. Something like people who first developed codeine noticed that monkeys who smoked banana peels felt no pain, but didn’t want to release that information, so they buried it by paying off the chimps to keep their mouths shut and their recreational banana habits to themselves (behind the trees, as it were). Don’t you think that’s a better story? 🙂

    • It’s a much better story, Lorna. Especially as it doesn’t have me as a character in it.

      • I’m getting worried about you and your health. Should I be worried?
