As you know I am fond of the Titanic. Not just as a metaphor. Or because I do believe there are icebergs running underneath our lives. Not at all. The main reason I am fond of the Titanic and its story because I mistrust ships.

One of the first things I learnt both in my physics and, later, driving lessons is to calculate how long it takes to brake as to avoid the object in front of you. And yes, I do know that Americans ‘cruise’ at leisure. In Europe we speed. Try Rome.

Ships are bulky. Like some people I could mention. Set on their path. Straight forward. No left, no right, no three point turn. No exit.

Spoil me, please do. But not by booking a cruise.

Mwah,

U

  1. I can relate to how long it takes a ship to “put on the brakes” from being on the bridge of a submarine running on the surface when we lost engine power off the coast of Scotland in March 1977. We coasted and coasted and coasted and still had plenty of forward motion when we got the engines back. (There wasn’t really a problem. It was a drill for engineering folks.)

    • I can’t recommend ‘walking on foot’ enough. Worst case scenario: You need to run. Back home. Or hide in the bushes. Or something. In seconds.

As to “drills”, Mike. That’s a bit of a mute point with me.

You mention submarine. One of my favourite films being “Das Boot” (English subtitles). Why favourite? Well, there is, obviously, all that water surrounding the submarine. Never mind their mission. The unique selling point of that film to me that of the male soul and that of male bonding. Or not. And how to keep your nerve. Only to be broken later.

  2. I am bulky and set on my path. You might as well start calling me Captain.

    • Dear Captain, yes, that’s the big question in life: How to get from A to Z.

Currently hovering around L. Hoping to make it to Q before the tide.
