Everyday

Fear rarely strikes me. Not because I am reckless.  I am not. But because there is little to fear.

However. It has been brought to my attention that I tend to repeat myself, and anecdotes. That’s why my mother and I click so well. We can tell each other the same anecdotes over and over and never tire of them.

Yes, it’s Mother’s Day. In England. I don’t like the artificial. For me Mother’s Day is every day the Angel is still in one piece, preferably happy. 364 days round the year.

One Mother’s Day GG (gay guy) sent me a card. I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. In the end I laughed. It’s safer.

My own mother’s first mother’s day (in the motherland it’s the second Sunday of May) was when I was three. Possibly the first poem I ever learnt, taught to me by Grandmother. So, on my dear sweet mother’s arrival back home there I was, petticoat – hair tamed, a bunch of flowers in little hands, loosely translated :

“Two hands full of flowers,  two eyes full of light, a heart full of love, that’s all I can give.”

  1. I offered to take the family out for lunch but herself opined that it was a stupid idea as the service would not be up to scratch…. I said that it should be but with the promise of Roast Lamb followed by rice pudding I caved in. Before anyone says anything…I did offer to prepare lunch but getting to work in that kitchen is like getting into……Heaven? Fort Knox?….. still. eldest came over, leaving spouse on sick bed…… at spouses request …. and youngest found a smashing bottle of wine. A pleasant lunch….. note no expenditure on cards or flowers……

    • Sounds great, Magpie. However, never stint on flowers. One of the great loves of my life. Any day.

  2. Ommitted to say that I agree that everyday should be mothers’ day….even at risk of being screamed at by feminist harridans and their male consorts.

BTW I now have an earworm: Namely a song by the late Buddy Holly…. “Everyday it’s a gettin’ closer, Goin’ faster than a roller coaster……” Well, I suppose it could be a lot worse….

    • Forget ‘feminist harridans’. I have never liked the militant. One can take a ’cause’ to the point of nausea inducing.

Congratulations on your ear worm. They are most persistent creatures. Until the next one comes along.

    • Thank you, WWW. Sentimentality? It’s my middle name. In fact, if sentimentality were a banana skin I’d be slip sliding more often than not.

Hope all is well with you.
