Grow a beard.

If you are a woman – tough luck.

  1. Au Contraire. Do not shave…. so un-natural.

  2. Magpie has got it right. One cannot grow a beard. One just leaves the face alone and it grows by itself. No need for fertiliser or anything. If you want to trim it and keep it like a piece of topiary, you are welcome to do that too. If you are a man and cannot have a full beard like many that i know, tougher luck than for women.

    • There are inverse proportions, Ramana. No sooner does a man starts losing his crowning glory he grows a beard. It’s called ‘balance’. Unless you are my first husband or my son. In which case you have long locks halfway down your back, which didn’t/doesn’t hinder either obsessing about ‘receding hairline’ (never have I heard such nonsense – ti’s called a high forehead) AND growing that carefully trimmed beard. Belt and braces.

I tell you, Ramana: For every time someone tells me women are obsessed with THEIR hair I just quietly snort remembering not least my uncles, cousins, nephews you name them and their woes. In fact, years ago there was a rather marvellous TV advert. I think it was for Hamlet cigars. The guy had no hair to speak of. But he made the best of it. With his cigar. Loved him.

  4. Well that estrogen decrease and testosterone increase gives me unwanted hairs on my chinny-chin-chin. So I nip them in the bud as it would take me many years to grow into the bearded lady of Barnum and Bailey fame and make a good living at it.

  5. Personally I find beards very unattractive. What is the point of them exactly? I much prefer a smooth hairless face.
