Bitch on the Blog

Another half an hour later

To all of you who responded to yesterday’s upset of mine: Thank you so very much for your sympathy and insights.

My mother called first thing this morning. She is distraught and full of remorse. Said she’d never forgive herself for what she said but hoped I’d forgive her. Dear dog in heaven. Of course I forgive her. Anyway there is nothing to forgive. People do say terrible things in the heat of the moment. Main thing is that we don’t allow communication to break down. It’s like sailing: Frayed ropes can be mended. Knots can be tied again. And that is, of course, the big difference between my mother and my father. And he was the one sailing yet seems to have forgotten all about keeping deck ship shape. As an aside: It is also what ails the unconnected Catch 22 I told you about the other day. Sulking instead of mending is no way forward. That way a dinghy will go tits up.

If I were an agony aunt – no, if I were a happiness aunt my number one advice to anyone would be: Talk to each other. Don’t shut off, don’t let the shutters go down.

So, yes, my dear sweet innocent of the world and impetuous mother and I are once more united in our bond with each other. I made her laugh. Not that that comes difficult to me.

  4. “Talk to each other. Don’t shut off, don’t let the shutters go down.” Amen to that. Glad to know you’ve made it up with your mother. Unnecessary hostilities just waste so much energy.
