From a lay woman’s view. and please don’t slaughter me, we have one option.
And one only. What (for sake of argument) you lack in looks you have to make up by personality. Be it wit, charm, intelligence, warmth, empathy, generousity (of heart and mind). Anything redeeming like, say, being able to tell a good story. If push comes to shove, cook up a storm.
Yes, so you have to make up for your shortcomings. Not least when you are a man. It’s one thing to be short. It’s another to be Dustin Hoffman, Danny de Vito, Woody Allen (I particularly like the woody bit), Al Pacino, and even Robert Redford I don’t imagine to be tall.
I won’t mention names because people get arrested on fewer charges but there is one currently in the limelight on the world’s stage who is undesirable on every imaginable count. I don’t WATCH the news, mainly because I am no voyeur, find them tedious and drawn out where the written front page is concise and you can scan those news at a pace you are comfortable with. But even not watching the news will not allow me escape THE VISAGE. Someone somewhere today suggested that he who shall remain unnamed wears a mask. To be pulled off. Chance being a fine thing. Some people actually do look how they look. And that’s before we measure a hand span.
Wait till you are at his feet.

I don’t know, Jean. I’d rather be good AND lucky. Or as a friend of mine (we shared same first name) pronounced at age eighteen: “Better rich and healthy than poor and sick”. I don’t think I ever quite got what she meant. But on the whole I agree.
Interesting that you brought up the concept of “luck”. Yes, good old luck. Who does luck favour? The good, the bad, the ugly, the deserving, the undeserving? And who DESERVES luck? I think Lady Luck, and it’s why I am not that enarmoured with her, is pretty indiscriminate. Acting on a whim. A tease. Dangling a carrot. Making you buy a lottery ticket.
On the other hand, and to be fair, I do count my blessings and thank Lady Luck. After all, instead of breaking just both of my two arms I could have broken my neck. Don’t say I am not grateful.

Based upon the logic of your post, and referencing the image on my blog and Facebook page, the first image of me (tumbling toddler) I need little or no personality. The second(HS graduation pic) looks like I belter start thinking about my personality and lastly – a few weeks ago (curmudgeon in training) with years of wisdom and living in the books – personality be damned. What you see is what you get.
Now that unnamed gent with small hands you mentioned I suspect therelationship should bebetween small hands and his brain.

Have been meaning to tell you since you changed your “banner”. It’ moves me. The three ages of man. The adorable toddler finding its feet, the young innocent at the entrance step into adult life, the wizened beard looking back at it all.
You have personality in spades, Shackman. As you know: I don’t flatter. I say it how I see it. No hot empty air here.
Thanks for making me smile. Once we measured in length of nose. Now? Now it’s more sublime. I do like your linking hand span to size of brain rather than the more suggestive alternative. The latter being base. Playground stuff. However, and to be fair, not all men with small hands are challenged in the grey matter. Grey? What grey? It’s orange. Come to think of it, and I have only just now, there is, of course, a most unfortunate association with an American institution (again unnamed). Have I turned into some sort of paranoid coward that I can’t call a prison center by its name? Don’t try to make me feel better. The answer is: Yes.

Yeah, well, Ramana. All Kudos to you. I said the same “don’t worry … it will not happen” prior to 23 June 2016.
Mind you, the resulting shock wasn’t as bad as when I found out that FOS (father of son) had actually voted Brexit. Sine he militantly, and to his detriment, refuses to enter any discourse with the mother of his son, I can’t ask him the pertinent question of, say: “Would you have voted brexit if you hadn’t known that if wouldn’t affect our son since he holds dual nationality, giving him full access to both the UK and Europe?”
Who knows. I can live with differences. They don’t stand in the way of friendship and affection. Yet I wonder at this snub.. In the Angel’s, as usual measured, yet urgent, words: “Mama, people change”. Really? What a pity. Particularly when you can’t reconcile your image of the person you thought you knew (a little) with the person that person becomes.

I’ve no idea who you’re referring to, so I can’t comment on that particular person. But I have to say, mean as it may be, that I’ve met plenty of people who have neither looks nor personality. And unfortunately, even if women have cultivated an interesting personality to compensate for average looks, it won’t necessarily succeed because to many men looks are the only thing they value.

I know you are the great “defender” of the “defenseless” woman, Nick. Or are you?
In my post I was talking about MEN. You may think so, but being a man isn’t always a bet of roses either. Particularly when, as in my facetious example(s), you are short.To put it another way, and straighten out one of your persistent misconceptions: Not all men are evil, not all women are helpless “little” women at the beck, mercy and call of the gender you perpetually vilify.
I have read your blog post today, Friday, 12 Aug. As usual, and I do not apologize any longer for saying so, you so exaggerate I literally do not recognize the world you inhabit.
